House in the colony

The design of a family house in the Prague colony of the Domov building cooperative responds to the fundamental disruption of the unity of the original semi-detached house by the reconstruction in the 1980s. The new house consists of the intersection of two masses - a one-storey base and a two-storey mass with an attic, which confirms the gable orientation to the street of the rebuilt half of the semi-detached house. The two masses are set back from each other to create an opening between the neighbour and the higher part of the house, which will minimise unwanted construction details of the roof intersection with the neighbouring house. The roof of the building consists of brick cladding strips, the body of the house is clad in textured render and the roof is assumed to be composed of concrete tiles in a traditional terracotta colour. The colours of the cladding strips, render and window frames are unified in a creamy white. The design also includes a garden store with a pergola, which appropriately complements the garden space and honours the material and colour scheme of the house. The fencing to the street is composed on a similar principle. The archetypal volumes, traditional materials and bland colours are the main moments of the whole design, thanks to which the house does not negatively interfere with the urban and architecturally unified concept of the colony.
