House in the woods

The architectural study deals with the completion and extension of a recreational building in the middle of the Kerský Forest. The strict material design responds to the contemporary requirements of family housing and at the same time tries to reverently integrate into the forest landscape. The concept of the two-generation house consists in preserving the traditional morphology of the recreational building and supplementing it with contemporary architecture represented by a low elongated prism. The original single-storey cottage with attic, which will be extended in plan to create covered parking spaces, becomes the main point in the composition of the whole house not only in plan but also in function. On the other hand, the new building, perpendicular to the existing one, will create the main circulation axis to which the public and private parts of the house will be attached. Two atriums are a strong motif of the house - the first accessible from the hall in relation to the main living space, the second forming an intimate atrium for the bedroom and bathroom. The traditional morphology is also traditional in material - the roofing is beavertail tiles with a simple covering in natural colour and the walls will be white plastered. The architectural design of the extension is based on timber planking in the natural cut of the logs used; the contrasting attic, which lowers the extension and tectonically holds it together, will be made of fibreglass concrete panels.
