Roofing of the Holešovice Market Hall

The form of the roof of the vegetable market in Prague's Holešovice is based on the former panorama of this part of the city. The considerable number of industrial buildings with gabled roofs used to be a basic feature of Holešovice and the market area still retains this atmosphere. The roofing inspired by gable roofs is divided into three parts, which are offset from each other. The result is a dynamic form that creates the bustle that is undoubtedly part of the market typology. The design also includes a functional connection to Argentine Street and a solution for the parterre. The roofing of the market is materially conceived in the context of 19th century markets - the supporting structure is steel, the cladding is made of aluminium sheets. The colour scheme is in shades of white and grey, so the roofing does not compete with the colorful action below and forms a backdrop to it.
