Upper station of the cableway on Vítkov Mountain

Vítkova hora is located approximately 4 km south of Karlovy Vary on the edge of the Slavkovský Les Protected Landscape Area. The location is attractive for tourists, which is confirmed by the hotel with a camp at the top of the mountain. The opening of the site to the wider public is linked to the planned cableway, which will enable a direct connection to the town. The proposal deals with the upper station of the cableway and further deepens its functional use. In addition to the station itself, a sightseeing café, an exhibition of cable car cabins, an information centre and a bicycle rental are proposed. An integral part is also a platform with a view of Karlovy Vary and its surroundings. The building towering below the mountain peak is shaped as an intersection between inside and outside, as an intersection between the cable car technology and the impression of a house, as an intersection between skeleton and wall construction. The intersections are not static and formal; instead, their dynamism creates a horizontal composition in which two different principles collide in tension. The strong accentuation of the horizontal direction is disturbed by the vertical of the transmitter, another element that gives ambiguity to the spatial structure.
